So this is what the fuss is all about. Now I know, cuz I'm really pregnant. My stomach is huge and everywhere I go people comment on how big I am. Quite a shift from all the comments just a couple of weeks ago as to how small I was! I guess baby boy has had a growth spurt and my body is naturally accommodating him.
For example, I'm walking down the hall the other day at work and someone behind me comments, "Those hips sure are expanding." Thanks for the notation and commentary on my spreading pelvis. Honestly, I really don't mind. I want my hips to expand as much as they need to for a smooth delivery. However, it is strange to have so many people make observations and comments as to my bodily changes.
Anyway, I had a beautiful shower last Sunday hosted by wonderful friends (Sally and Julie) and lots of help from mom, sisters and others. The food was great and the sun came out for a brief moment which I guess we can be thankful for in mid-November. Each guest decorated and wrote on a square to be quilted together by my mom as to all the places they'd like baby boy to travel to. I haven't seen all the squares yet and am so excited to read all the seeds of dreams that will be planted for baby boy's future adventures.
My boy is certainly going to be one well dressed and cuddly little guy! The softest blankets (some homemade!) and cutest wintery pajamas and outfits were just too cute. It's all starting to sink in...I'm having a baby in six weeks!
To make things even more real, we go to the birthing class tomorrow and just hired our doula. Even though I have some natural anxiety about the birth, I feel really excited about it. Of course, the unknowns are always scary, but I look forward to what I'm sure will be one of the hardest, yet most amazing experiences of my life. And, at the end of it all, there will be a baby boy on my breast that we'll bring home. We'll then enter a whole new phase of this process into parenthood, redefining ourselves and our lives together as a family...what an exciting time in life!
