Julian was so sad to discover that no more chocolates remained in his Easter basket. Even though the thought of the Easter Bunny had him running and hiding in his room just days before, he looked at me and asked, "Easter Bunny coming again?" Clever boy. We planted wheatgrass in Julian's Easter basket, just one week before which was plenty of time for this extremely fast sprouting seed to grow. We just transferred the grass to the garden. Perhaps, we'll have some wheat to harvest this fall!
The festivities around Easter were such a joy this year. Due to great inspiration and craft ideas from our class at the Waldorf school, we decorated blown eggs and hung them from a spring tree, set upon a little seasons table of sorts. We used torn tissue paper sponged on with a bit of vinegar and water. At home, we experimented with plant dies, having the most success with blueberries and beets. Also, from the Waldorf class, I finished a bunny, knit from a square. I was not entirely pleased with the shape, so made another. And, of course, now we have a mama and a baby bunny. In our quaint little room at the Waldorf school, the window sills are decorated according to season. I just love the little felt bunnies, chicks, and flowers amongst the scarves and moss that create this ethereal scene in which I want to crawl and fly away with the faeries. Playing with felt has definitely been added to the list.
Before family arrived, I put two different breads into the oven. A whole wheat loaf that I make weekly and find delicious in its simplicity. The other is a bread very near and dear to my heart, zopf. This traditional Swiss bread not only tastes great, but is beautiful with its braid. The multiple attempts and hands involved in getting this twist just right (or, good enough) made the end result that much more special!
Hope your days are filled with Spring delights as well!
