With the school year complete and my work done, we're making our rounds. First, a trip south to Santa Cruz. Lucia napped and Julian played at Forest Lake, a walk from my dad's where I swam as a kid.
This morning, I decided to pack our (three) bags and head north to Oregon. Here I go with the spontaneity again (or lack of planning.) Being our summer destination for the past few years, we look forward to once again visiting with family, playing in the Rogue River, and exploring the quaint little town of Ashland. Crossing my fingers that the drive goes smoothly as I face hours on HWY 5 with my little ones in tow.
Books in my bag: Tom Hodgkinson's The Idle Parent, A Child's Seasonal Treasury, Summerhill For and Against (an analysis of A.S. Neill's philosophy), John Holt's Teach Your Own, and June Singer's Seeing Through the Visible World.
Chris and I will be apart for our anniversary on the 27th...eight years. Such is our life at the moment. We hope to celebrate upon our return, but somehow it doesn't seem all that necessary. What we do cherish and celebrate daily is that which we have created together. Besides, there are plenty of years ahead to celebrate that very special day in Lugano.
So, off to bed I go to begin an adventure early tomorrow morning. The brave mom, the excited boy, and the baby along for the ride.
